The Out Loud List is back for a sixth year. Out in Hollywood and Gersh just named the best unproduced queer-focused TV pilots from the past season. The writers will be celebrated at a Los Angeles reception hosted by Jeff and Maridette Greenberg and sponsored by Writ Large.
As Variety reported, queer professionals nominate scripts. Then a blind panel of Out Loud Hollywood’s founding board plus guest producers and executives scores them. Reviewers use a queer storytelling lens adapted from GLAAD’s Vito Russo Test.
What the Out Loud List signals this year
The slate spans sci-fi, crime, thriller, coming-of-age, comedy, and drama. Titles include Roberto Fatal’s Curandera, Oliver Warren’s Cusp, and Yilong Liu’s Everything I Learned in America, I Learned on Grindr. Also on the board: Gumshoe, Hell on Earth, Killing All the Right People, Puberty Too, Rush, Elysium, and What to Expect.
Logan Kriete, speaking for the Out in Hollywood board, said the pilots are “a force for change” and proof that queer stories move every audience. The list is not a network greenlight. Still, it is a buyer’s map. Agencies and studios use it to find writers who already cleared a peer filter.
